UN’s Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, on Friday appointed Lt. Gen. Johnson Mogoa Kimani Ondieki of Kenya. Ondieki is expected to head at least 12,000 strong force already in South Sudan.
In a prepared statement, UN says General Ondieki will bring to his new post “more than 34 years of national and international military, command and staff experience.”
The Kenyan general will replace Ethiopia’s Lieutenant General Yohannes Gebremeskel in June.
UN praises the outgoing Ethiopian General, saying Lt. Gen. Yohannes has done “invaluable service” for the community of nations.
