Nairobi/Juba, June 14, 2018 (SSNA) — A South Sudanese government official has denied recent accusations by the United States that South Sudan’s government officials buy expensive mansions and invest in Uganda, Kenya, and other East African countries.
South Sudan’s deputy ambassador to Kenya, Jimmy Makuach, dismissed the accusation and said the United States is trying to damage the image of the young nation.
“We are in a process of restoring peace in our country and this has been facilitated by the good relationship between South Sudan and Kenya. The claims by US are ill-motivated and do not reflect willingness to end the conflict,” Makuach
On Wednesday, US’s Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Sigal Mandelker, called on the East African countries to South Sudan’s government officials from hiding war money in their capitals. Mandelker also urged for the prosecution of those who involved in illicit money scheme.
